As a parent or carer, it’s your responsibility to get your child to and from school safely. Student safety is our priority.
- driving and parking safely, even if it means parking further away and walking the rest of the way to school
- being a good role model
- never calling your child from across the road
- using the safest place to cross the road.
Talk safe travel with your high-school-aged child including:
- walking to school safely
- crossing roads safely
- public transport safety
- riding your bike and wearing a helmet
- riding your skateboard safely.
Subsidised school travel
Transport for NSW provides subsidies to assist school students.

The School Student Transport Scheme provides eligible students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school.
The School Drive Subsidy may help towards the costs of driving children to school if you live in an area where there is no public transport.

School Opal Cards
A School Opal Card can be used:
- On approved travel on school days between the student's home and school
- For travel between 6.30am and 7.00pm weekdays only
- All students must remember to tap ON and OFF each time.

Busways
New enrolments or students who have changed address are advised to contact the appropriate transport authority about transportation to and from school.

Driving and parking
The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside our school.
When driving and parking near our school, please:
- follow speed signs
- ensure you park safely in school zones
- do not make U-turns or 3-point turns outside the school.
Parking on school grounds
Only staff, DoE staff and special vehicles are permitted on school grounds.
Need help getting to school?
If your child has a disability or additional needs, they may be eligible for the Assisted School Travel Program. Contact us to learn more or get help planning your child's journey to school.
Students driving their own vehicle to and from school
MHS students who have their car or motorbike license are able to drive to school, however, must register their vehicle details with the front office prior to beginning this privilege.

Bell times
Our school day is structured around a clear timetable. We have bell times for roll call, classes, assemblies, recess, lunch and end of school. Understanding the bell times helps students get the most out of each part of the day.
