Learning and support

Learning

At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.

Inspire – High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE)

At our school we are committed to supporting every student achieve their educational potential by providing talent development opportunities and differentiated learning experiences that are aimed at raising expectations and building student capabilities. We recognise and nurture student strengths and support learners with lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Assessment and reporting

At our school we provide detailed information to students about what we expect from them throughout the year and how their work will be assessed. Students have a number of formal assessments throughout their schooling.

Homework centre

Our school runs a homework centre on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons in the school library.

Our homework centre is a great opportunity for students to receive help with homework and/or assessments on a one-on-one basis.

Subject selection

Subject selection is one of your first real chances to take control of your education. Up until now, most of your learning has been decided for you. Now you get to choose the subjects that match your interests, strengths, and goals.

The subjects you choose now can shape what you do after school, whether that’s going to university, starting work, learning a trade, or figuring it out as you go. Even if you’re not sure what’s next, your choices can either help or limit your future opportunities.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) refers to students bringing their personally owned device to school for the purpose of learning. A personally owned device is essentially any technological device brought into the school and is owned by a student or the student's family.

Breakfast club

A good and healthy breakfast is the best start to the day, however, not all students have access to the food they need each day.

MHS runs breakfast clubs on each Thursday and Friday's (excluding school and public holidays).
