At Mitchell High School, we are committed to supporting students and their parents/carers as they explore future employment and career opportunities. Our careers program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their education, training, and employment pathways.
These skills help students feel confident and prepared to face the fast-changing and sometimes challenging world of work today. If you want, I can provide more examples or suggestions on how to support students in these areas.
Careers education is a key component of our school’s broader learning program. Through individual guidance and support, year-specific activities and a wide range of learning experiences, we aim to equip students with the tools they need to confidently navigate their futures and actively participate in their communities.
Our Careers Adviser, Mr M. Turner, offers personalised support for students across a range of areas, including:

Learning
At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.
Subject selection
Through innovative teaching and supportive relationships, we provide students with the skills, knowledge and values they need to succeed at school and in life.
We offer a wide range of subjects and support programs to meet the needs of all learners. Whether students are aiming for university, trades or creative pathways, we help them explore their interests and achieve their goals.
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE)
Our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) program promotes engagement and challenges and supports every student, regardless of background, in every school across intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains. Students have access to quality learning opportunities to encourage their potential and meet their needs and aspire their talents to develop to their optimal growth.
Parents or carers of children of compulsory school age are responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day. Children must commence school by age 6 and then complete Year 10.
